Memorial Day, 2022

It is my hope that each and every member of our community had a chance to spend some time reflecting on what Memorial Day is all about this weekend. 1.3 million American servicemen and women have given their lives for this country. It can be hard to wrap our heads around a number so large so I wanted to add this photo. This is a photo of the dog tags of each of the men who died from my unit on our deployment to Ramadi, Iraq in 2004. These men have families, friends, and communities that miss them dearly.
Thank you to the gold-star families who sacrifice in a way that we cannot understand. For the last many years, I have been attending Memorial Day events around this country along with my fellow Marines to pay our respects to the fallen men who never made it home and to meet with their families. I hope that as you head back into your workday tomorrow you will keep these young men in your hearts. Be safe.
